Rachelle Ann Go and Erik Santos to star in The Little Mermaid

Much scrutiny has been done to cast the musical play The Little Mermaid, known as one of the classic Disney films will be transformed into a theatrical performance to be shown in Manila! Leads are out and Rachelle Ann Go and Erik Santos are to star the cast by playing Ariel and Prince Eric.

Rachelle Ann Go is making a big splash in theater by clinching the much-coveted role of Ariel in the Atlantis Productions’ staging of the Broadway Musical Disney’s The Little Mermaid. The singer bested hundreds of contenders in her first try to perform in a musical production, and in one of this magnitude.

Well, she did it and how. According to insiders at Atlantis Productions, it only took Rachelle Ann to open her mouth and sing and to do screen shots for key people in the production to realize that their search was over. It is said that even people from Disney, who have to approve every detail about The Little Mermaid, are thrilled to have found the “perfect” Ariel for the Philippine staging of the musical.

Meanwhile, Erik was handpicked for the role by the musical's co-director, Bobby Garcia.

"Disney's The Little Mermaid," to be mounted by Atlantis Productions, is the Broadway musical based on the 1989 animated film of the same name. The stage production of the classic Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale features songs from the Disney film as well as 10 new songs made especially for the Broadway musical.

"Disney's The Little Mermaid," to be directed by Garcia and Chari Arespacochaga, will have a five weekend run from November 18 to December 11 at the Meralco Theater.

What are we then waiting for? Join us and catch the magical underwater experience -- The Little Mermaid. Be enthralled with the magical kingdom and meet other characters such as Sebastian and Flounder. Don't make it just a dream, make it a reality. Book your tickets now!

Little Mermaid by Atlantis - Nov 27, 2011

Atlantis Productions has done it again! Popularly known for bringing in RENT to Manila and even in Singapore, it will prove itself once again with Broadway Musical Disney's The Little Mermaid.

Atlantis Productions’ The Little Mermaid will launch the musical theater debuts of mainstream recording and concert artists Rachelle Ann Go and Erik Santos from November 18 to December 11 at the Meralco Theatre. Rachelle will play the little mermaid, Ariel; Erik will play Ariel’s one true love, Prince Eric.
This will be the first international production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid in Asia. The show opened on Broadway in 2008 and ran 685 regular performances and 50 preview performances.
This will be the first production of Disney’s The Little Mermaid that incorporates Asian elements into its virtual under the sea scenes. A majority of the cast members will play puppeteer-actors, who control wayang or shadow puppets , bunraku or traditional Japanese puppets and nang kaloung or Cambodian puppets, during certain parts of the show.
The show’s Co-Director Bobby Garcia told us that his theater company is so thrilled to be “bringing another beloved Disney classic to the Philippine stage. (Atlantis Productions staged Disney’s Beauty and the Beast six years ago) Disney’s The Little Mermaid had started the renaissance of Disney’s animation department and had some of the most memorable songs written for a classic animation such as Alan Menken and Howard Ashman’s Part of Your World, Kiss the Girl and the Oscar winning Best Original Song Under the Sea.”
